REVIEW: Jurassic Oceans - Monsters of the Deep

200 million years ago and giant reptiles ruled the oceans. Chances are your children will know more than you do about long-necked plesiosaurs and ferocious Mosasaurs. However, even the most dino-mad child will find new facts to add to their arsenal in this fascinating show at the Natural History Museum.

This is one of those exhibitions that the NHM excel at. There are the just the right amount of fossilised skeletons, big screen wizardry and touch and feel interactives. It walks the narrow tightrope of being fun without being gimmicky, educational without being worthy. It is also especially good in making links between pre-history and present day creatures. Hold your hand over an x-ray beam to see if it resembles a plesiosaur's flipper, peer into a jar of pickled squid tentacles, found in modern Antarctic oceans.

Pick up a free trail booklet and stamp the paper pages with each of the dinosaurs you meet. 'Fear factors' range from 1/10 for the gentle Leedsichthys to 10/10 for the T-Rex of the sea, the terrifying Mosasaur.
