Iconic designs galore at the V&A.
Spark the imagination of any budding designer at the V&A's brand new shiny design gallery opening today. Split into 6 separate sections and housed in the museums former 20th Century Gallery this newly curated exhibition space brings together fascinating cutting-edge design exhibits from the last century.
The very first iPhone, a google maps robot, a roof tile made of cow dung, a hot lips Salvador Dali sofa are amongst the inventions that we think will really appeal to children.
Continuing with the museums 'rapid response collection' ethos there are also lots of objects marking this last hugely impactful year. From 3D-printed door handles to limit the spread of COVID and the I Believe in Our City bus shelter posters highlighted increased Anti-Asian bias to the British Vogue front covers portraying three key workers (a nurse, a train driver and a supermarket worker) there are some pretty poignant things to discuss with children.
Supporting Design and Technology in the curriculum the museum’s annual flagship National Schools Challenge (open to children in years 7, 8 and 9) is a brilliant initiative encouraging pupils to work in teams to try and design a solution to a real-world problem.
