So far we have seen one of the four versions of A Christmas Carol to choose from this year, and that was an earlier production. (In fact we have seen at least four different Scrooges at the Old Vic and will be returning this time round).
We will be sampling all of them in the run up to Christmas so check back to see what we thought.
Old Vic, 12 Nov–7 Jan
It’s becoming an annual tradition, and one of our favourites. If you haven’t seen it, put it to the top of your Christmas list. Atmospheric, moving, joy-giving. This year Owen Teale (Game of Thrones) takes on the role of Scrooge. Ages 8+. Tickets: £12–£67.50
Bridge Theatre, 6–31 Dec
This had a seriously Covid-blighted opening in 2020 and we missed it. We are looking forward to seeing Simon Russell-Beale as Scrooge this time round. Ages 6+.

Dolly Parton’s Smoky Mountain Christmas Carol
Southbank Centre, Queen Elizabeth Hall 8 Dec–8 Jan
Scrooge is transported to a mining town in 1930s Tennessee but otherwise the text is still recognisably Dickens. Songs courtesy of the Queen of Country. We are hopin’ and prayin’ it’s a goodie! Ages 8+.

A little further afield, this new musical adaptation takes a female Scrooge on her journey of self-discovery. Ages 5+.
